Liu Yunjie, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a keynote speech themed on the development trends and opportunities of 5G and future networks at the China Hi-Tech Forum on Nov 14 during the China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF). 

Compared with 4G, 5G has faster speeds, lower latency, more connections, higher security and more flexible deployment capability, which makes 5G able to change the whole society. 

"The development of new technologies such as the industrial internet and the internet of vehicles has been continuously raising new requirements for the internet,"said Liu. 

Liu added that the network in the future will be the core of the future smart society.  

Liu said that currently China is a pioneer in developing 5G as China leads in the network construction and scale. "No country can limit China's 5G development," said Liu. 

With the commercial application of 5G in China, Liu believed that compared with 4G, 5G will bring more convenience and benefits for users. 

"For China, the most important thing is to give full play to the potential of 5G in applications and promote the development of the economy as well as support companies' upgrades and transformation," added Liu.
