At the 2022 China Hi-Tech Forum, which took place during the 24th China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF), a topic-focused forum to discuss the future development of the metaverse was carried out on Nov 15.
Du Junfeng, the project leader of Sinosoft Blockchain Application Lab, said at the forum that the construction industry is large in scale, but is the most traditional and the least digitalized one. One of the key problems of the current construction industry is that construction is three-dimensional, but the current system of information flow is two-dimensional, which causes fragmented information that could lead to poor decision-making.
According to Du, digitalization is needed to solve this problem. Digital technologies can be used to solve many problems existing in the two-dimensional information flow system. Enterprises can disassemble the original construction processes and modules with high precision in the virtual world, restore and simulate ascene in the virtual world, and then make decisions that will translate better in the real world.
The construction and development of a real smart city needs to be updated through digital means to achieve the core goal of reducing costs, increasing efficiency and improving quality, stated Du.
Alvin Wang Graylin, president of HTC China, noted that the metaverse is actually supported by artificial intelligence (AI) and experienced by using virtual reality (VR), hence the two are very important.
The metaverse would be fairer and give more people access to international markets, and it can offer better education and work opportunities, added Wang. In a research done by HTC and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, there was a 71 percent increase in acceptance of new cultures by different people using the metaverse or extended reality (XR) devices.
Wang added that the government should help establish a cross-world and cross-platform metaverse ecology to make the metaverse an open and safe public resource for society.
